Cherwell Football Forum

The PTA (and in particular Lynne Trenery!) organised an fantastic session for students, staff, families and friends to quiz some of the UK's leading football journalists and writers.

Students and parents were able to put questions to some of the UK’s leading sports writers who all gave up their time to take part in a ‘Question Time’ style discussion.

The panel consisted of Oliver Holt, chief sports writer for the Mail on Sunday, Paul Kelso, sports news correspondent at Sky, Robin Cowen, sports reporter on BBC Radio Oxford, Jason Burt, football correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph and Phil McNulty, BBC Chief Soccer Writer.

Jim White, sports writer for the Daily Telegraph,  chaired the discussion.

All the panel live in Oxford and Jason and Phil have children at Cherwell. The evening raised around £600 which enabled the PE Department to buy 50 new footballs for the new season.

Questions which were raised on the night included the scandal at Fifa, footballers’ pay, do any footballers cycle to work, the future for Oxford United and who was best – Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo!
